The Prytanean Women's Honor Society is the oldest collegiate women's honorary society in the United States. Established 1901 at the University of California, Berkeley, the society is made up of a group of academically accomplished leaders on the Berkeley campus dedicated to making Cal a fantastic community.
Prytanean has a long tradition of creating and improving opportunities for women. Concerned with healthcare, the Prytanean Society contributed extensively to the creation of the Tang Center and the continuation and improvement of the University health services. Supported by active alumnae, Prytanean is able to support other student groups in their efforts to improve Cal through financial gifts.
An Active Community
We are an active organizer of both social and community service events on and off campus. Every year we host the EmpowerME Art Gallery as well as bonding events with our alumnae. We are also active as volunteers at other organizations such as Acorn Elementary School, The Berkeley Project, the Dwight Women’s Shelter, the Sex Trafficking Obliteration Campaign, the Annual Women’s Rights Conferences on campus and more.
A Support Network
Prytanean provides numerous resources for the women of our organization. Aside from providing an opportunity to get to know other accomplished women, Prytanean offers two annual scholarships to members who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to community service, as well as the Prytanean Faculty Award, a financial award granted each year to an un-tenured woman faculty member.
